CASK No. 29.243PEATEDA REMEDY FOR THE SOUL Price £139.00 Arbroath Smokies, cold-smoked kippers, anchovies, fresh seaweed and smoked sardines in virgin olive oil with lemon made this a really engaging nose neat. Big on the palate, hot, tannic, salty and smoky this is certainly not for the faint-hearted, resolute and uncompromising. However a drop of water changed the complexion dramtically. Now a gentle sea breeze, wild flowers and herbs on the machair mingled with peat smoke wafting from the pagoda roof and on the palate smoky honey mustard, spicy earthy ground coffee, sea salted crisps and slightly medicinal in the finish – truly a remedy for the soul.

SMWS - Laphroaig as I like him. No water necessary. Hardly any tar but the finest aromatic smoke. This Laphroaig doesn't polarize. Everyone can love him. :O)

Нос	93	heavenly in the nose, everything fits, fine smoke, vanilla, fresh fruits, maritime, oysters, smoked ham, medically but not too much of everything, very subtle and perfectly balanced

Нос	89	Moderate smoke, definitely dominated by the hospital. Menthol cigarette smoke, pharmacy, iodine, bandages, doctor's office and all kinds of medications, Lysol, glue, citrus, lime, pomelo, honey, mineral salt, herbs.
Вкус	91	A strongly salty, dry, smoky flavor. Smoked meat, salty cheese, oscypek cheese, spices and herbs, nutmeg, bison grass, tarragon, anise, fennel, young walnut peel, light bitterness, dandelion milk, tartness, albedo, lemon peel.
Финиш	91	Medium-long, smoke, again medicinal as in the aroma, thick, fatty, salt, minerality, vegetation, spices and herbs again, tartness, apple vinegar.

Нос	—	clear smoke, mineral character - lime, salt, sweet covered with medicinal notes, gooseberries in sugar syrup, pleasant refreshing pepperiness, delicate citrus, seemingly simple because the aroma is easily noticeable, but it makes an impression
Вкус	—	oily, sweet, smoke and ash, medicinal and something that impressed me - delicious cyrus in sugar syrup with a pinch of salt... simple but delicious
Финиш	—	long, pleasantly warming, bland, sweet and ash, citrus with a pleasant bitterness - grapefruit, cocoa and oak, a salty accent throughout

Нос	92	Nose: Smooth, structured, pleasantly salty and crisp, it's a shot. Iodine, bandages, white fireplace ash, burnt plastic, linoleum, freshly mown wet grass, a salty sea breeze, peat in the background, broken by toffee, milky caramel, marzipan, honey, sweet orchard fruit, peaches, pears, sweet citrus. Perfectly composed, the alcohol and spices are off-putting at night, nothing harsh. After a while in the glass, the aroma of cigars in a humidor emerges. 92.00

I came across Laphroaig via small detours - initially not so much in my focus until I was allowed to try this bottling from SMWS. From that point in time (albeit a little delayed) this distillery had risen considerably in my personal classification.

Нос	93	Maritime, greasy-smoky Honey sweetness and citrus flavors vanilla Nothing is dominant, everything is very balanced in a harmonious interplay. A real snoop. Little feet sneak smoothly along the edge of the glass, the alcohol (at least 58% vol.Alc.) perfectly integrated.
Вкус	94	Cold-smoked salmon (or better cinema in the head: Sit at dusk on the beach with a campfire and a damp sea breeze, slightly foggy and smell the smoke, the fish and the grill aromas; and of course: a lot of this one here). The mouthfeel plays the interplay of the olfactory notes as flavor aromas. Oily / smooth viscosity spreads in the mouth, accompanied by maritime / fruity - definitely phenolic - aromas. Towards the end, coffee comes with a trace of bitterness (19 years in wood, that's okay).
