Interesting and one of the few fairly priced whiskies. All of these batches have been quite good. Interesting dram for sure.

Very bold! Balsamic vinegar, raisins sour cherries, roasted espressoe beans, cocoal and dark chocolat. This is very typical Glenallachie for me with a tiny minty note and active casks that have produced a bit of sulfur. Take your time and you'll be rewarded with cinnamon. |

Upd: I'm raising my rating a little, the aroma is still cool, the taste is harsh, it hits the throat hard, like a stick with splinters, the finish is surprisingly short, dry and overly over-tanned. Still, I don’t like 6 batch no matter what.

Whatever lies dormant in the barrels of the warehouses that Pernod-Ricard took over with the distillery - Billy Walker packs it in new barrels and brings new bottlings onto the market at high frequency, who soaks up the whiskys with benevolence. So also the 10-year-old Cask Strength bottlings, here already as batch 6. The dark color shows that the barrels have not been saved here. PX, Oloroso, Rioja and Virgin Oak, respect, Mr. Walker let off steam. Was it worth? www.glen-efze.de

Some kind of “dirty” taste, horseradish, understand what is mixed, a porridge of sherry, wine, wood shavings, some old baseboard. The taste is burning and unpleasant, overly chopped. Perhaps it needs to sit in an open bottle for a couple of months and it will get better. Dubious pleasure.

For € 65 that's still a good deal, but I don't understand all the current hype. I don't feel any incentive to buy, even if I come across it again at the EIA. Regardless, I definitely see an increase over the first batches.
So good with the price! That would be great if the finish is a bit longer!!
Parallels to Batch 4 and 5 can be seen again, but unfortunately the complexity continues to decline. In this batch, the tart wine notes come through a little stronger. It cannot completely cover the few years in the barrel. The fruit sweetness looks a bit fake.

nose: cooked fruits, rancio, dark chocolate, cooking spices; old soaked wood blocked: spices on candied fruits, orange, raisins, cooked ripe peach, date and blackcurrant, sweetness, the toasted caramel, the spices on the pepper, desiccated vanilla, return of dark chocolate, and toasted wood, sweetened coffee grounds black fruits, currants and lightly maderized figs, coffee extract again final: surprisingly long enough with candied fruits, spices and this roasted and chocolate side, bitterness at the end of the palate.

Billy Walker has really perfected the ability to turn a rather inconspicuous malt, originally intended for blending, into a delicious, aromatically extroverted whisky by transferring it to active casks and selecting them accordingly, and he shows this again in this batch of 10-year-old cask strength. If you like these single malts that are charged to the maximum, you've come to the right place, because you're invited to sip carefree at high intensity. Unfortunately, there's no distillery character, exciting twists or lastingly interesting moments.
Very well done whisky. Oak dominated profile is not my favorite style yet master Billy Walker manages to get away with it. Big, bold, rich, interesting profile. Excellent value!

In the aroma: sherry aromas and the Rioja are in the foreground here; ui, it already offers a lot. On the palate: mainly lots of spices, the fruits are rather delayed. Alcohol well integrated. Playing with water is quite beneficial as he opens up a lot more with water. For me even better with water than without - and it was good there. [91 - 87 = extremely tasty -> I'd better get a second bottle] the malt offers a lot, playing with water also brings one or the other.

dark fruits, plums, raisins, sour cherries, red grapes (bring dryness with them; the Rioja works well there), Seville orange, apricot jam with bits inside, acacia honey; Milk chocolate, tobacco leaves, leather, dusty library. Sherry spices, cinnamon with roasted apple, allspice, cardamom (whole bazaar of spices is represented here). with drops of water: sweeter, the honey comes through better, more fruit aromas, toffee/caramel, a bit of vanilla in the background. The orange comes out better and fades into a juicy, fresh and fruity orange (the slightly bitter note of the Seville orange disappears with the water). The "dusty" has also moved into the background; the fruits and spices are simply much more present/stronger. |

Nose: Red Berries, the faintest bit of a smoke (not peat), raisins, and spice. Palate: Dark cherry, chocolate. Ah, there’s what I was smelling: cinnamon apple. Reminiscent of big red gum. Toffee, dark honey, cardamom, allspice/pimento berries, orange zest. Finish: Primarily spice that lingers with a beautiful leather & dark chocolate after taste. Overall: This thing drinks like it’s 51-52 percent, not 57. It’s a joy & so well-balanced and yet incredibly nuanced. It’s a hell of a dram for the price point ($94). The new Batch 7 is on the shelves already, but a few liquor stores near me still have Batch 6. While I’m tempted to try the 7, this was so lovely that I’m going to risk it and pick up another few bottles of the 6 before it’s gone for good.

It feels like at the bottom of the barrels they not only left a decent amount of sherry, rioja, but also richly flavored it with sugar. Such powerful, excessive taste characteristics, as a rule, are caused by the need to hide something (in our case, acetone), and immediately pour this whisky, because it has nowhere to develop further, it is already too bright in all its manifestations. I believe that it could be a good addition to whisky, which, on the contrary, did not pick up the taste, did not get drunk on the cask (suppose the cask was the sixth filling). Such an experience could help both. But this is the case when you do not have to choose (sounds ominous, like this conversation on the eve of marriage). So, a lot of dried plums, dried apricots, spices, heavy tones, like an old dusty, never washed velvet curtain of a provincial theater. Cinnamon, fig. And this is all very redundant. Hence the shades of acetone, as if all these stale berries and spices, fallen autumn leaves, began to rot, and you came up and turned this pile over and you were doused with aromas so that you could hardly stand on your feet. The same is felt in taste. It is so sugary, with many protruding corners, that you want to muffle it a little, and you involuntarily reach for a glass of water. Understandably, young releases are so vibrant because one of their goals is to prepare the barrel for longer maturation. But we are for balance! A drop of water reconciles whisky with reality, making it more rounded. I hope that the manufacturer had this in mind and took care of us in such a way that, by adding water, we would have more whisky for the same money. Well, for this we express special gratitude to him.

There are hints of plums, orange peels and cherry marmelade aswell. A clear note of sherry. It turns sweet now with notes of caramel, treacle and christmas cake. There is a hint that makes me think of cola sweets. At the end a little touch of cinnamon. |

More darker notes, less fruity notes. But let's start with the fruity notes as they are definitely there. Raisins and dates. This makes way for sweet notes of chocolate, honey, cookies, and gingerbread with a little bit of caramel. The sherry is present again. Dark notes try to pinch through. Think of coffee, mocha, leather and old oak. Followed by layers of spiciness. Cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. At the end nuts like almonds and walnuts. |

I find it noticeably younger, rougher, more spirity on the nose than later batches – particularly batches 7 and 8, which seem much more mature. But it's still enjoyable as a straightforward drinking (rather than nosing) whisky. While the previous batch was too winey for me, this one is more on the dark and malty side on the palate, which I consider an improvement.

[October, 2021] Glenallachie was one of the least known (big) distilleries in Scotland and no connoisseur really gave it a try until the very same investor took it over who made Glendronach and Benriach hyped brands before selling them for a hell of money (but these two were already highly appreciated by connoisseurs, contrary to Glenallachie). The trademark marketing gimmick of this investor is a capital letter at the beginning of the second syllable within the distillery name: GlenDronach, BenRiach and now GlenAllachie - but contrary to the former two the stressed syllable in Glenallachie is not the one with the capital letter (because in Gaelic always the second last syllable is stressed, without exceptions). So does the investor's play work with a third-tier distillery too? Well, during whisky boom times obviously everything works in that industry... ...but not on my taste buds, sorry folks. While Benriach and Glendronach offer balanced, complex and adorable profiles of both fine malt and sherry flavours (thanks to the excellent texture or "backbone" of their malts) this dram is just high-proof sherry as the Glenallachie malt is by no means on eye-level with Benriach or Glendronach (not to mention Glenfarclas or Glen Grant).

It looks like prices are going up and quality is not. The batch #6 is the less complex out of the 3 batches I was tasting (already finished 1 bottle of #3 and #5, more than half of batch #6).But the price is the highest, and this happened in about 1 year. No more ~50 EUR at launch, as it was the case for batch 3 and 5. Now we are at the 80 EUR mark and it is not worth the price anymore. These 10 YO CS editions are also issued in quite large number of bottles - batch 3 - 3500 bottles, batch 5 27.000, while batch 6 went to 39000. Should cost less for a bigger volume, don't you think? Ok, prices are going up year by year but with Glenallachie I think it is a bit too steep. As it was the case with the 1989 Single casks - the last one (32 YO) is at 800-900 EUR while you can find 29, 30 or 32 YO at 350 EUR.... Coming back to batch 6 - there is sherry all over. But even for a sherry bomb, the nose is simple and the finish is medium. The taste is profiting of the high ABV which pushes the sherry aromas into the palate.

For me, the score in the base doesn't reflect the taste of the good drop. It's different from Batch 5, but by no means worse. That's why I'm giving a strong 89 points. Are there any works here that give deductions in the B grade due to the price? That wouldn't be fair, the whisky is still well and fairly priced at 65-75 € (11.09.2021).

The most disappointing bottle I’ve opened in a long while. There’s no accounting for taste, of course, but I can’t help thinking that some people really WANT to like Glenallachie - the Emperor Billy’s new clothes. All I get here is cask influences and they are a bit confused. I can’t even be bothered to dissect the experience. It’s saving grace for me is that it’s not too sweet and the bitterness in the finish is quite pleasant. For the price, you could do so much better.
Bought 2 bottles before reading the reviews here, and got a bit scared. Only had 2 glasses so far. When I had the neck-pour, I was quite disappointed, the smell was very Oloroso oriented, but came across quite muddy, and not at all a clean smell. When I tasted it, it was very perfumy and soapy (which really puts me off). And the sherry flavours didn't taste very well integrated, as if it was coated with sherry and then faded while drinking it. Not to say the sherry flavour isn't there, its very sherry forward, it just didn't live up for the lifetime of the palate. On second try however, I added some water and made it stand for 30 min, now it was getting somewhere, flavours started to get a lot more integrated, and I was quite pleased with it. I think this one just needs time, will do a proper review when I'm a bit more through this bottling...
Complex, great mouthfeel, intense chocolaty, wonderful dried fruit but paired with an intense acidity, a dram that's sure to polarize.

Like many official Glenallachies this one offers a busy palate. The different varieties of casks used play out well, although they in fact bury the original Glenallachie spirit with loads of imparted flavours.

Much better on the second attempt! I thought I was going to tear it apart, at first it seemed overloaded to me, but I'm having a lot of fun with it! With its original RRP of around €70, I would actually prefer it to the Aultmore 17 100 Proof SV exceptional Casks as a PLV cracker.

Don't get me wrong, I like cask strength whisky, but this one is just a throat-cutter, good nose though, but overall the whisky is kinda unbalanced and alcohol is not well-integrated - 83 points. UPD. After a long time of breathing it becomes really friendly and nice, nothing special anyway tho. But I'm improving my rating to 85 points.

I honestly feel like these are getting better and better with every release. The character of this is very similar to that of Batch 5 but with slightly deeper oak influence to it. Possibly more Rioja in this batch? Value (£60) : 8/10

It reminds me of the Edradour 12y Caledonia on the nose without adding water at the first hint. However, in contrast to him, he remains somewhat one-dimensional. The two sherry casks clearly dominate what is happening, although the fruity acidity with the berries could also be due to the Rioja. In my opinion, with water it gains more depth and becomes more complex. It is a modern sherry malt bottling. Clear. But he can handle water and wins because of it. What many malts today with supposedly wet barrels cannot master. Today I like it a lot because I'm in the mood for a sherry bomb like that. But it is certainly not suitable for every day, as it could sometimes be too much. Personally, I would still lean more towards the 15y.

The nose is just the bomb! Berries, raisins, prunes, leather (like on a new wallet), butter, plum jam. A very bright nose and a rich nose, little alcohol, I'm delighted. Over time, bourbon notes, varnish and brine appear, strange, there don't seem to be any bourbon barrels, maybe it's the virgin oak that has this effect? The taste is bright, rich, sweet, like jam. The sherry influence is very powerful. Apricot pits and ripe berries appear. The strength suits this drink, but still, with a sip, the degree slightly scratches the esophagus, as if reminding that the degree here is quite solid. Overall I really liked this whisky, I would like to come back to it again. I really like this profile
keep in mind that Batch 5 started with around 55 Euros on the first market. And 2021 ratings are like the 90 points are the new 85 points.

A full, heavy but very pleasant nose. You can feel the influence of the sherry casks right away. There is some sweetness, but this aroma is definitely not sugary. Dried fruits. Dates, although not that sweet. Raisins. Some red fruit underneath. A delicate hint of nuts. Some chocolate. Chocolate with nuts and raisins. Grapes. It's not super-complicated, but very enjoyable. Alcohol, for that power, is completely fine. |

Second approach to Glenallachie 10 CS ... The case when water is extremely necessary - without it the nose is simply "hellish Soton" ... But even with water, acetone is well felt in the nose ... More water ... a lot of water ... In! Quite another matter. The aroma has pleasant sweet prunes, spices (basil and cloves), polished furniture. 21. The taste is sweet and spicy, with hints of wood 21. The aftertaste is long and persistent, slightly sour 21. After "cooking" you can put 83. I measured the strength and it turned out that 40-43 degrees turned out to be optimal for my taste. The question is, why is this circus with Kask Strench release? It is impossible to inhale it, and even more so to drink it ...
This is an intensely charged, pleasing sherry malt that is also good to drink undiluted. Is that a whisky that somehow deserves hype traffic jams: NO WAY! The nose is also 5x better than the button and 10x better than the finish. just 10 years....

It has a good full flavoured mouthfeel and is a nice to drink Cask Strenght.
I was very pleasantly surprised to have opened this at the end of November 2022, boy boy what a complicated thick viscous whisky that has a lot to say, the 4 casks bring many layers
Tasted side by side with Macallan Cask Strength and Tamdhu Bach Strength. This one had the richest chocolate notes. Really yummy. I'm enjoying my bottle and will happily purchase the next batch.

Although it satisfies on the nose and palate, the finish is really a bit too “abrupt”. The glenallachie character I like is here, thank God, we feel the barrels beautifully. It needs to be opened a bit quieter. Although its initial RRP is decent, its current prices are a bit above its value. Price performance: Medium Would I buy again?: Maybe another Batch

At first I gave a rating of 88, but after standing an open bottle of whisky, it opened up for the better !!! I advise you to let this whisky stand longer ...
Batch 6 Incense, jeongjonghyang, tail raisins , The taste is nutty and the texture like nut oil seems to be specialized in Ololoso series. It has a red wine-based finish. The finish is smoother than expected and the spice is not strong. There were no notes to write more than expected. I hit it hard and beat it with a force, but it was hard to find a delicate and interesting note.

A rather rough candidate, a bit out of round and unfortunately not that good swimming. Good, but I'm a little lacking in enthusiasm.
with water: with water and a little time, the whisky opens up and becomes much more fruity, dates, figs, red apples, dark blackberries. Chocolate and cocoa appear, the taste is a bit more sweet, it loses its mouthfeel, but becomes rounder overall - paradoxical, but I can't describe it any better Conclusion: First of all, the question must be allowed whether this is still whisky. It is incredibly charged due to the many barrels, but nothing remains of the Glenallachie basic character, even as a whisky it is difficult to recognize. Otherwise, you have to concede that Billy knows better than anyone else how to create something with the most diverse cask types that the modern, new world of whisky likes. Personally, though, I'm left a bit perplexed. The thing smells full and rich, but falls significantly in taste and finish, here the consistency is simply missing. Yes, you can even recognize the individual barrel types, the sherry, the red wine and also the New Oak Casks come into their own. Still, the whisky doesn't excite me. Maybe I'm not made for this new world of whisky
