Among all Springbank releases this year, across all age statements and series, this stands out as the finest. It’s no surprise this Cask Strength batch is generating buzz faster than its predecessors.

Quick testing at the Goodwine bar. I'll be honest - at level 10 and 15. Not impressed. Although yes, a good 12ka. 88 can be given (as well as 10 and 15).

Undoubtedly an excellent whisky, beautiful character, fine bitterness... But I am boycotting this brand when it comes to buying a bottle because I condemn the development of the prices of these bottles. I am simply not willing to pay the exorbitant and unrealistic money for these whiskies.

the whisky looks deep and clear golden in color, pretty fluent in texture, and fast legs dripping down the edge of the glas. on the nose this 12 year old starts of as expected. with an ABV of 55,9% the typical springbank funk comes right at you. some tropical fruits like pineapple and mange come to mind, aswell as some fresh citrus flavor. just as usual you find a dirty peat-smoke behind all this to keep it nice and balanced. there is a fairly well integrated amount of bourbon influence coming trough. some vanilla, aswell as some cedar wood and pinewood. on the end you will find some funny -smoky lean-meat character coming trough aswell. on the palate its pretty well balanced, not to aggressive alltough it's higher ABV. you will find that your tropical fruits are now well mixed with some bruzed yellow fruits, and slightly oxidative stone fruits. think of a baked sweet pineapple. next you'll find vanilla aswell as some dried red fruits and flowers hide more in the background on the back of the palate. you might be able to find some honeysuckle and more herbaceousness on the finish, aswell as some of that old fashioned Cambeltown peat. the spices towards the end reminds me of the Indian cuisine. a bit of kerrie and safran on the end of the finish to top it of. i nice creamy texture at first, leaving just a tiny bit of tannic mouthfeel. compared to previous batches, this 27the edition of the 12Y cask strength, leaves a rather clean feeling than the funky dustiness you would expect from springbank distillery. this being said i could still easily identify this as a springbank CS. not the best batch, but still a very well made whisky.
That's what Springbank should be! Great drink.

So, I think some of the ratings here are way over the top. Up to 94 points, really? By comparison, what would I give a 21-year-old Bowmore (WB126397) or an almost 30-year-old Glenfarclas (WB192001), 120 points? If you're going to give a rating that others are guided by, you should probably try three or four Springer CS 12s first. I've invested the time and money myself. Then things are put into perspective...and what's the point of the 5% rum barrel aging? Can you taste it? In my opinion, no! Did the barrels have to go, or is this a marketing campaign, like with the last bottling? The nose is very pleasant, but the rest is average for a CS 12. In short, this bottling didn't quite capture the holy grail of Campbeltown. Still, it's good, as is the entire series. Around €160 and more? No way! I've always been careful not to pay much more than €120 for a CS 12, in extreme cases. Even that's expensive, but we all know how Springbank prices go.

We're only two weeks into 2026, and I already have a strong contender for my whisky of the year. The nose of this Springbank 12 is sweet and sour, slightly mineral and very well balanced, leaning towards mango, citrus zest and soft wood spices. Brown sugar, custard and a touch of soot chime in. On the palate, juicy oranges, lemon drops and peppermint give way to pineapple, grapefruit and bonfire ashes. Creamy mouthfeel. Lingering notes of salty licorice, lime juice and molasses reveal the subtle influence of the rum casks. One malt to rule them all! RATING: 4.4/5.0 stars ≙ 90 pts → SUPERB [-]

Overall Review: "A whisky that suits my personal taste" This whisky is quite close to my personal taste, and I feel a strong resemblance to the bottle I personally blended during the Springbank Bali to Bottle Tour. At the time, the sherry cask blends had overly strong yellow notes, so I added a significant amount of bourbon casks to balance them out and add a touch of rum casks on top to bring in the tropical fruit notes typically found in aged bourbon casks; this whisky feels quite similar to that. Springbank's distinctive nuances are clearly evident in the aroma and taste, though the finish leaves a slight sense of disappointment. In particular, the sweetness of the finish is quite intense, somewhat disrupting the balance, so it might be polarizing; however, overall, it seems like a well-blended whisky that preserves Springbank's unique nuances without any off-notes standing out.

Wooden chopsticks / Light smoky / Ash / Papaya / Jackfruit / Chestnut honey / Lime peel / Peach / Apricot / Strawberry-flavored cough medicine / Mocha bun / Vanilla / Nutmeg There is some stimulation before swirling, and a fairly strong stimulation after swirling. However, considering the aging period and alcohol content, it leans slightly towards the softer side. There is quite a distinct oak aroma characteristic of Springbank, reminiscent of sucking on a wooden chopstick in your mouth. It is a sensation I haven't felt in Springbank spirits before, so I am always puzzled as to why I sense this; I suspect it is due to the blend of yellow nuances, oak, and peat. The peat is not strong, with a light smoky sensation and the scent of burnt wood ash being the most prominent. There is a slightly salty nuance mixed in, along with a faint earthy nuance. However, as mentioned earlier, the addition of yellow notes gives it a thick feel. The complex nuances of tropical fruits are the most prominent. Papaya is the strongest note, yet the sweet notes also carry a jackfruit-like quality. While it doesn't quite feel like chestnut honey, dark and heavy honey nuances are added to further enhance the sweetness. Despite the significant presence of citrus, it doesn't feel overpowering due to the preceding heavier scents. It does provide some balance, but it wouldn't have been bad if the intensity were slightly stronger than medium. It feels like a lime peel scent, but it lacks freshness. Stone fruit notes emerge once the other scents are pushed aside. Peach and apricot are prominent, but due to the preceding darker scents, they feel more like a bruised peach than fresh stone fruit. There are subtle berry notes, but due to their bitterness and heaviness, they come across as reminiscent of cough medicine. The stone fruit notes become slightly stronger over time, adding the characteristic freshness of fresh fruit. Notes are perceived that are closer to coffee than chocolate, yet mixed with a nutty maltiness. While not an exact match, it brings to mind a mocha bun. Vanilla is blended in with moderate intensity, accompanied by a touch of nutmeg spice. - Overall Impression: The addition of significant yellow notes creates a heavy nuance. However, the yellow is not the dominant element; rather, it adds weight to the overall scent, such as as the honey notes darken and become heavy, transforming into a chestnut honey-like feel. The layers are diverse, and the intensity is quite good. |

Ash / Smoky / Salt / Soil / Apple / Pineapple / Coconut / Jackfruit / Peach / Dried Plum / Strawberry Yogurt / Orange / Lemon / Acacia Honey / Pepper / Nutmeg / Milk Chocolate The peat is quite distinct. Notes of burnt wood ash and smoky notes dominate. A slight saltiness is added, accompanied by a faint earthy undertone. It is the kind of peat you would expect from a Campbeltown peat. There is a hint of Springbank’s characteristic "chopstick" flavor, but it passes quickly. The apple nuance is quite strong. It starts off refreshingly. However, after the apple notes fade somewhat, the tropical fruit nuances become significantly stronger. Pineapple notes connect the middle and subsequently establish the foundation for the tropical fruits. It has a fairly oily feel, and the addition of nutty nuances from the coconut flesh makes it feel even more like coconut. Over this, the sweetness of tropical fruits like jackfruit gradually intensifies, eventually reaching a quite strong sensation. Afterwards, stone fruit notes naturally emerge. The stone fruit notes are similar to peaches, but with the added sweetness of dried plums. The peach notes feel like fresh fruit, but also have a hint of canned peach. There are faint berry notes, but they feel like they have been processed, like strawberry jam, rather than fresh berries. A yogurt-like heaviness is added. It has a fair amount of citrus, but it blends well with the sweetness so it isn't overly emphasized. There is an orange note, but it isn't strong; rather, it is closer to the citrus that would naturally be found in the tropical fruits and stone fruits mentioned earlier. There is a moment when the lemon citrus flavor is felt strongly. The sweetness of the honey is also quite complex and intense. At first glance, it strongly resembles acacia honey, but there is a weighty undertone that gives the impression of a hint of chestnut honey mixed in. To summarize, the main aroma and taste are those of acacia honey, but it feels heavier than acacia honey. The spices blend in just the right amount to achieve balance. The stimulation of pepper is dominant, but a subtle scent of nutmeg can be felt in the nasal cavity. A smooth bitterness reminiscent of milk chocolate is also added. - Overall Impression: Various notes layer with quite good intensity, making it enjoyable to drink throughout. While it doesn't give the impression that "Ah... this distinctive flavor is unique to Springbank," it feels like a well-made whisky. |

Smoky / Honey / Floral / Peach / Apricot / Vanilla / Jackfruit / Raisin / Lemon Peel / Salt / Ash - The finish feels long. Overall, the sweetness is very strong. - Smoky notes feel quite strong at the beginning of the finish. However, they lose their intensity instantly, and afterwards, the saltiness lingers in the latter part of the finish, making you keep wanting more. At this point, a nuance reminiscent of burnt wood ash remains subtly. Although there are slight differences, it is the saltiness felt after eating salt mixed with a smoky sensation, like bamboo salt. The sweetness of the honey is very strong. It has a unique feel—too heavy for acacia honey, yet too light for chestnut honey. The subtle floral nuances blended in make it feel even more like honey. Just as you get used to the honey-like sweetness, notes of stone fruits like peaches and apricots become quite strong. However, the sweetness lingers so intensely in the mouth that it feels more like an aroma than a taste, and since the sweetness lasts much longer, it feels like a passing stop along the way. There is some vanilla, but it fails to cut through the sweetness. To use an analogy, it feels like vanilla has been weakly infused into vanilla syrup. You can definitely taste the vanilla, but the intensity is weak. As time passes, the sweetness of the honey begins to lose its intensity. At this point, notes of tropical fruits like jackfruit are felt quite strongly. Since the sweetness of the honey has not yet lost its intensity, the mouth feels sweet, but with the addition of tropical fruit notes, the distinctive sweetness of the tropical fruit feels even more emphasized. Afterwards, other flavors are subtly perceived. There is a hint of raisins, and a slight citrus note of lemon peel. However, since both are subtle, they are not strongly emphasized. - Overall Impression: The sweetness feels very intense. In particular, the chain of sweetness leading from honey to tropical fruit seems to overpower the other notes. If considering the finish in isolation, it would likely have been difficult to associate it with Springbank in a blind tasting. |
Sweetnes, malt and other cereals. Tropical-funk. Sugar.

N: Banana, Mineral, Candy, Peat, Oily, Melon, Orange, Pineapple The rum cay feel isn't that strong. While the rum cay nuance is evident when compared to other bourbons, it isn't particularly strong on its own. The lineup is Smoke >> Assist > Medical; while Smoke is the main move, it is closer to a light Pete. The refreshing sweetness of gourds, led by melon. (20 minutes later) Citrus fruits of the orange and pineapple family appear, but strangely enough, the citrus itself is blocked by rum, leading to the gourd family. There is a slight rum funk, but the intensity is negligible. A strong sweetness with nuances of honey and fructose emerges. It seems that the rum is directly affecting the honey. |

Mineral saltiness and white sugar. It also feels like Chichibu. Mild pepper and cinnamon nuances (leading into toffee) provide a kick. As time passes, notes of honey and vanilla emerge; in other words, regarding the palate, a strong sherry nuance is felt immediately after pouring, but as time goes on, bourbon-like notes tend to become dominant. This is also effective when taking a sip, where the sherry nuance starts off but gradually shifts to bourbon. |

Jeju Tangerine Chocolate - It feels like they reduced the chocolate ratio and increased the orange compared to this one. The smoky notes disappear, leaving mainly assists. It feels a bit dry, so it might be a hit or miss for some. |

Typical dirty Springbank. So sweet, and peach fruity. Pretty good despite being with rum.
Now I really can't stand it any longer and have to immediately compare it with the previous batch 26, which has the same cask composition (60% bourbon, 35% sherry, 5% rum). Interesting: in direct comparison, I find Batch 27 much bulkier and more maritime than Batch 26. Yes, Batch 26 has the peat smell that Batch 27 doesn't, but I still like the nose of Batch 27 better in direct comparison; it's more mineral, more "original."

A very maritime first impression on the nose, with considerably more salty sea spray than anything else—especially peat smoke, which I noticed very clearly in the previous batch with the same cask composition, but not at all here. I'm really looking forward to a comparison tasting; I still have enough left in the bottle from Batch 26 for that. Grilled pineapple slices, grapefruit, smoked bacon and dried fish, warm machine oil—especially with the machine oil note, it seems like it's out of time. And I can well imagine that this note would have been much more pronounced without the 5% rum cask contribution. |

Springbank 12 Year Old Cask Strength – Batch 27 (55.9%, 2023) Nose Immediately reminiscent of Springbank Local Barley—a gentle sea breeze with subtle pineapple, raisins, and cherry. Despite having the same cask composition as Batch 26, this batch felt like a completely different whisky. Palate Dramtically more balanced than Batch 26, 27. Rich apricot, delicate coffee, and fresh ginger notes blend beautifully into a creamy, weighty texture. This one was so enjoyable I kept reaching for more. Finish Like melting 99% dark chocolate with a pleasantly sharp kick. There’s a smoky citrus element — think smoked lemon — with just the right hint of char and zest. Water helps taper the slight alcohol nip, but this batch once again does not disappoint. Extremely balanced with that extra prominent rum dimension on top. Hard to fault; top-notch.

Very indulgent, although be careful with the alcohol.
Tasted at the US NH meeting 20250712. A bit thin. Good, but less earthy and metallic than I would like. Quite peaty. Two months later, I'm tasting a sample again. This is so much more creamy and buttery than earthy and metallic, it's kinda weird. This is very much out of standard profile and I don't like it. I'm lowering my score from 88 to 87. Just 87 because it's still very good whisky. But for SB standards, it's meh.

One of the higher-quality versions in recent years.
Springbank 12 CS, it's always good, and sometimes really good!

It has a relatively high viscosity and a fairly intense bouquet. I detect aromas of herbs, leather, chocolate, vanilla, crème brûlée, and honey sweetness. Moderately complex. A good balance between sweetness and dryness on the palate. The alcohol is well integrated, and it has a full body.
Pretty pronounced rum cask influence
I like batch 28 a tiny bit more.

Aroma: You know the scent of a horse farm? Here we go: ginger cake with icing. Caramel. Cloves. It's tropical – there were versions where coconut and pineapple were more dominant. Palate: Oiliness is okay. A nice, typical Springbank roughness. Nuts, peach, coconut, syrup, brown sugar, and oil cake. All slightly smoky and funky, in their style. Medium-long finish. Pour-over coffee. Slightly bitter. Comments: 12 CSs are better when given some air. The alcohol is more integrated than, for example, in the b.25 and 26, where the middle and finish are more peppery, gingery, and longer. I love 90% of Springbank distilleries, so I may be biased. I don't regret buying it, but I wouldn't say this batch is groundbreaking, a standout, or anything like that. Bunnahabhain 12 CS 56.6% from 2022 (on my 90 points) – it could easily compete. Hmmm, some days for funk, and then there are days for fruity whisky in a sea salt haze… and in the end, yes… Springbank is in my top three distilleries. I love it.
I liked it right away, the sample was convincing enough that I opened a large bottle straight away.

Surprisingly fruity: citrus fruits, honey, honeydew melon, a little tropical fruit, kiwi, lychee, guava, pineapple. The funky smoke is much more subtle, skillfully enveloping the fruit. Then it becomes distinctly mineral with salt, shell limestone, and chalk, which seem to intertwine with the citrus notes. The alcohol isn't hidden. It has a noticeable cooling ginger note on the nose, but it's appropriate for around 56%. It remains exciting here, as with the second dram and further swirling, new notes emerge. Salted caramel, orange ginger, and grilled fennel and sage also catch my attention. The interplay of the distillate and the various casks is truly successful here. |

The alcohol kicks in noticeably in the first sip, and a powerful burst of flavors rolls toward you: initially intense, bright fruit with apple, peach, honeydew melon, and quince, then nuts, spices, and subtle smoke flicker briefly, but then quickly yield to the fruit again. Also a touch of fennel tea, grapefruit (subtle bitterness), and candied ginger. Sweet, bitter, spicy, salty. The tongue is confused. In a beautiful way. Everything dissolves retronasally. |

The finish again reveals plenty of distillery character: the mineral side with plenty of salt returns, but later also banana, pineapple, fruit esters (Jamaica), and sugar cane. Exciting. |

Each NPF becomes more clearly visible and much of the negative feeling disappears. Sweeter than before, with a stronger malt
Huge thanks to the Springbank distillery for making such a great and authentic whisky! Hats off to the ones who respect their job and whisky traditions, something that’s rare in our time.

I'm thrilled. I thought the series was slowly losing quality (see the last bottling). Now I'm putting an exclamation mark. Perhaps I slipped out one too many points in my joy. Whisky is also an emotion. |

60% sherry 35% bourbon 5% rum 55.9 Smell: There is some smell of alcohol when the bottle is just opened, and after two minutes the familiar citrus and malt smell of Genting appears. Taste: Same as the previous 56.2 version, with orange soda, wax apple, tropical fruit, wafer biscuits, and not much rum. Finish: The finish lingers for a long time, and it is my favorite 12-year-old barrel strength.

I prefer this style of SB that, on the spectrum of cask influence, with the 10 on one side and the 15 on the other, strays closer to the 10 side. More blade-like than the more sherried ones, as I think SV would say. Same percentage of sherry, but here it must be mostly or all refill. "Yellow" flavors predominate, with some "orange" flavors too. The "reds" and the "purples" are way, way in the background if there at all. Tropical fruits (yes, I like that very much in an SB). Oils (with hints of the fishy kind). A little filthy barn mud is hidden in there too, but detectible. A light smoke warming and caramelizing the yellows. With a dusty coating that is a little spicy (spicy dust? I attribute this to the rum, maybe). Yes, this ones for me.

Beautiful whisky, full of aroma and taste, typical Springbank taste, the only thing that is sad is the price, if this whisky cost 50-60€ I would drink it regularly, but still good quality
87- Small review from a small 4cl sample, I would like a full bottle but do not want to pay egregious prices for this type of 12-year old. Quite nice still.

Ethereal at first, mineral, very malty, and even though they make up only 5% of the batch, I feel I can actually feel the rum casks very intensely (crushed sugar, tropical fruits). Needs water. After a while the sherry and bourbon notes start asserting their dominance in a delicate way. It feels like a premier gin in the background, very raw-herbal and grassy. Then a very bright smokiness, leather, herbal-honey, spicy nutty-chocolate. Nice. |

Full-bodied, both sweet, sour, spicy and smoky. Very consistent, works out equally well both neat and reduced. Malty honey, herbal, lightly smoky. Very diverse on fruits, both from the sherry casks, the rum casks and the distillate itself. Dense, comforting while being engaging. Quite good. |

Good medium length, warm, less complicated, pleasant. A lot of honey-fruity and barley flavors at the start, oak spice, the sherry becomes more noticeable (chocolate, raisins, nuts) while the peat smoke is basically non-existent. Dried herbs on the fade. Good. |
