Tasted quickly, he is very nice this little Ledaig. He does not look at the meaty / organic side like other peaty sherry, quite marine with bonus ink notes as on the old handouts. Salty in the mouth too, with a good length. Alcohol is remarkably well integrated. 89/100 "conservatory rating", it could well reach the 90 during a tasting more posed.

Highly anticipated considering the very good comments comments received this Ledaig. Not at all disappointed. Remarkably integrated alcohol. May be less "fit in" than other young Ledaig. Very marine. A good 89 that makes you want to come back after a good opening period and also taste his sisters cask.

Нос	—	Pure: from now on, all CS Sherry Ledaigs have to face the reference stuff ( https://www.whiskybase.com/whisky/69605/ledaig-2004-sv ) Cask No 900175. And what can I say, he definitely opposes. In direct comparison not so intense sherry sweet reminds of grilled bacon, but more salty maritime spices, marinated raw beef, dirty old ship wood. Still absolutely outstanding. With water: even more maritime, somewhat peaty, but not a real stinker. Now autumn forest, wet earth, somewhere still burning a cigar. Goil!
Вкус	—	Pure: a lot of smoke, then again sweet and spicy, spicy, power without end, massive oak spice, engine oil, the sherry fights and delivers light strawberry notes as in the Haribo strawberries. Pumpkin seed oil afterwards and some dark chocolate poured over a new leather sofa. With water: even more peaty, now hard on the border to Port Charlotte, about the feeling as if you crash into a moor in front in the drunk and wakes up the next morning in the stable of a crazy chain sawmonger. Humus distillate.

Rarely I could taste a whisky as powerful and sweet in the mouth. Not aggressive for two cents, I had yet left with a nice dose of water next to me to start this tasting. Finally useless as the alcohol is tremendously well integrated (only 10 years!). The balance is perfect. In the end a super peaty coastal Sherry, which deserves by my standards the 90+

Нос	—	Smoke, and especially dry peat, is the first thing that strikes. Then smoked meat, brown tobacco. Old wood then appears with a little air, with a return bonus plus Sherry towards the end: plums and black fruits are invited in the game. Incredible sweetness to more than 60%. A nose not crazy complexity but very pleasant.
Вкус	—	The mouth confirms certain aspects of the nose: one side always dry meat, smoked peat too. A salty side is also revealed, as to remind us that we are still dealing with a coastal whisky. Alcohol is incredibly integrated, so you do not need to add water, which in any case does not bring much more. At the end of the mouth the influence of sherry is more felt, with small fruity surges.
Финиш	—	Long, peat and smoke return to the foreground.

Нос	—	Sweet smoke, tobacco leaves, salt, notes of barbecue, then then sherry cask shines with toffee, caramel and dried prunes. No sulphur, no off notes, just a nice, "clean" peated sherried whisky.
Вкус	—	Full body and nicely integrated alcohol, sweet notes of dried fruits, prunes, raisins, cherries, then some toffee, milk chocolate and this medicinal smoke and ash lingering on the tongue.
Финиш	—	Medium long on the sweetness of sherry with some spicy pepper and not overly intense smoke.

Нос	89	the nose is truly special.. peat and sherry in a strong, alcoholic embrace.. roasted nuts, marzipan and spicy greens.. not very outspoken, needs a drop of water or two

I tasted this Ledaig 2004 SV next to the Ledaig 2004 vW (https://www.whiskybase.com/whisky/70913/ledaig-2004-vw). Compared tot the 2004 vW, the 2004 SV has a cleaner, crispier nose and finish. The 2004 vW has some slight notes that reminds me of fresh engine oil in the nose and some 'dirty' earthy notes in the finish. That's interesting, but I prefered the cleaner 2004 SV. I think because it's more clean, there is a very nice balance between the sherry and the peat in this one. Thanks WhiskyBase for comparing!

Not quite as convincing as some of the neighboring barrels, but undoubtedly a great drop. A few drops of water can be added, so that some flavors still open, but this is a balancing act, since the whisky tastes very quickly too thin.

Нос	—	sweet yet dry peat smoke, a maritime breeze, spicy and woody, slightly pungent, dry leather like from a cracked leather chair (unfortunately this note vanishes), ashes, old tobacco, even a little cowshed is included; with a little water, it cools a little clearer, warm cowhide makes itself felt
Вкус	—	a bitter woody note, spicy and almost unpleasant sharpness, peaty, salty sweetness, the sherry is weaker compared to the sister barrels; Adding water pushes the bitter oak back a bit, but makes this Ledaig also rather thinner and does not take away the sharpness
Финиш	—	long, bitter and smoky, wood and ham; slightly diluted with water, the finish lasts longer and it spreads more, the wood note weakens

Very Ledaig, very dirty and dirty. After almost 10 years in the closed bottle, the aromas have calmed down a bit. This is a great, young, exciting Ledaig from a good, very solid sherry cask. I like it with water at least one, almost two points better and it is much less dirty and fruitier, but also saltier. A nice complexity and variety for the key data. A very solid 89 points, plus-minus one point.

Нос	—	89.5 For just 10 years and over 61 percent, this is still relatively mild. Of course it's not exactly mild overall, but it doesn't burn at all. I find grilled pork bacon in salty brine, beet sugar and maple syrup, those cheesy notes that were classic for a Ledaig a few years ago, With water it opens up and becomes fruitier, more apricot and also more salty caramel.
Вкус	—	89.5 Also on the palate there is a peppery sweetness of burnt bacon and behind it some charcoal smoke. Really well done for the key specs, but I like it diluted a bit with water. Then the whisky becomes saltier, more salty caramel and a lot more soft flavors. I really like it with its powerful intensity. This is surprisingly delicious and this is not a wet, sweet sherry cask, but an exciting Ledaig from a good sherry cask. In the end, the alcohol burns a little too sharply for me, but that's completely natural at this high percentage - even diluted.
Финиш	—	The mouthfeel is very mouth-filling with water, full-bodied and the finish is medium-long - simply due to the high alcohol content. Here too, it sticks to the palate like a salty caramel candy.

Нос	90	Immediate powerful Ledaig nose. It calms down with some air and water. Sweet, earthy and smoky, the usual burned meat and peat.
Вкус	91	Where the nose calmed down after some water, the taste does not. This reminds me of a sweet and chili rub for spare ribs. Sweet peat-smoke and spicy. All well integrated.
Финиш	90	Very long and warming. All flavors of the taste remain well balanced till they fade away.

Not quite the depth of cask 900177, but still incredibly complex - the citrus fruits are slightly brighter whereas the sulphuric bacon dominates in 900177. All still mixed with iodine and struck matches, and layers of maple syrup and ash, and a touch of jagged spice on the finish.

Good example of a "hype"-bottle from a few years ago. The overall quality is really good, especially the nose is very nice, really busy, loud and always developing. The palate is still good, but nothing to rave about. The finish is a little disappointing to me, and I'm not a fan of the yoghurt note in heavily peated whiskies.

Нос	—	Sweet cream with blueberries, peat, some tobacco, some rust, a blueberry yoghurt with dark forest honey developing, a little burning car tyre, creosote, graphite, some mercurochrome, later some roasted coconut chips, some cinnamon & nutmeg, hints of fresh bayleaf, only traces of sulphur. Complex, bold & busy. Nice!
Вкус	—	peaty, spicy arrival, some cinnamon & nutmeg, some sweet cocktail cherries, some marzipan, some sweet cream, some plums and dades, a little coffe, drying and sweet. Juicy, big body, a little syrupy, good depth, the balance is somehow uneven though.
Финиш	—	Creosote, hints of burned car tyre smoke, a little blueberry yoghurt with forest honey, some warm tar, medium to short.

Very good! The balance is great, the surprising sweetness for a brute who scored 61.6%. It is not very complex, but it does achieve its goal: pleasure of peat and sherry together!

Нос	—	Nose first very tight, but incisive and precise. Very sweet for 61.6%: no brand of alcohol. Very nice balance between peat and sherry: dry wood smoke, citrus fruits, leather, some juicy black fruits (fig, plum) and a more pastry background on malted frangipane. Smells of white flowers, sweet spices, some oak (not too much) and other little things to discover yet.
Вкус	—	Sweet but not sweet! Oily without heaviness! Very smoky, supported by sherry which gives it a fruity and spicy background. Perfect balance.
Финиш	—	Long! Always smoky, with a touch of bitterness (green olive, chalk) that highlights the smoke of peat and dry wood.

Clearly more rustic and less round than the barrel 900173, like what the sister casks can be very different while being very good. The latter, having a profile a bit less accessible, is awarded one point less.

Нос	—	Caramelized smoke, which quickly becomes drier. Spicy tobacco, candied grapes and dried apricots. After a very long aeration of minutes, soft chocolate praline appears.
Вкус	—	Sweet, sweet, and balanced. The smoke is very present (especially at the beginning, and becomes sweeter thereafter) in the foreground, assisted by caramelized brown sugar. A little milk chocolate afterwards.
Финиш	—	Long time. The heat of the alcohol shows the tip of his nose, and the smoke becomes more dense and very ashy. A mineral explosion.

Very peaty for a Ledaig - that is, moderately. Malta. Gourmand with red fruits (currants, cherries ...) In the mouth, what flexibility, what roundness! Alcohol is not aggressive at all. End of mouth and finish on smoke and pepper. With a little water, it opens and becomes even more intense on the nose! The malt unfolds and a note of honey comes to decorate it. On the palate, greedy and now very spicy. Smoke is not the main attraction of this whisky, it completes the panorama as the icing on the cake. Speaking of cherries, they are back in the final. Back taste of smoke. Enthusiasm 4/5

I was lucky to buy it approximately one year ago at the original release price of 75€ (hence the high rating for price). Should have bought more bottles back then! This very dirty sherry profile is always a welcome reunion every time I (re)taste it! Despite its very high ABV it doesn't need any water for me but I can imagine that some other drinkers might want to dillute this powerhouse of a Whisky a tiny bit ;-)
