Violent ashes / wet, extinct campfire / Almdudler herbal soda / honey / heavy alcohol - takes time or a few drops of water / clear, slightly bitter oak. For young 10 years really strong.

The barrel is a strict dry style, maybe precisely because of such a high% it is actually quite dry for me, the signature theme of the tasty combination of Ledaig + sherry cask is not revealed IMHO... 21+ 22 20+ 21 85

I am more or less new in the world of Whisky but it is the best Whisky I have had so far. For me an absolutely "must have" in the whisky collection and I am very happy that I was able to buy some bottles. Enjoy!

Нос	—	incredible lovely smoke, remembering on the night I sat together with my dad for barbecue. A hint of honey in the back which gives it a smell where is no need to drink the whisky at first. I also smell some tobacco... On the second tasting I now also smell salty bacon!
Вкус	—	Without water the alcohol is dominant (due to 62.3%) but only for a second. Anyway I would recommend a drop of water. Directly afterwards you taste the smoke but also pepper, the honey is coming stronger therefore it is very sweet and even with the 62.3 an incredibly smooth whisky (w/o water)
Финиш	—	Wooow! Extremely long, warm and I get the Sherry taste on the finish.

Нос	—	A shade or two darker than cask 900146. What a refined nose for a 10yo! Enchanting, even. A solid combination of dry oak and a fatty, round, but bold distillate. Why am I thinking of Cadenhead? Faintly rubbery, but it's rubber of the highest quality :). Matches and cigar leaves. With water: Pine and fresh dill. If you regularly wear a Panama hat or are for other reasons oversensitive to sulphur, this may not be your cask, but for anyone else this ought to be a hit.
Вкус	—	Surprisingly loud peat, but the body's balance is exquisite. It starts mostly on sherry and peat with some oak supporting, but spices (cardamom) push through a moment later. Faintly charred, oily, inky even. Such finesse for a 2000s distillate! With water it just gets better.
Финиш	—	The finish could be a bit louder. Perhaps the youth shows here. Some vanilla in the tail.

Нос	90	Bush fires, very farmy and cheesy, sweet sherry, plum, fig, sour cherry, sweet dark berries, mashed potato with piccalilly. Sweet and salty soy sauce, roasted nuts, moldy oak wood, black pepper, clove and some nutmeg.
Вкус	89	A greasy and creamy mouthfeel, sweet sherry, black pepper, farmy cheese, so much going on here. Fruity, forest floor berries (blueberry, blackberry currants), cherries and plum. Furthermore lots of tobacco with thick coffee and chocolate notes drizzeld on top, then caramel, black liquorice, charcoal and clove with even some sweeter spices like ginger and a whiff of cinnamon. Farmy from the initial start into the development with the alcohol being very well integrated.
Финиш	90	Very long: creamy thick dark fruit juice, dark chocolate, dark liquorice, tobacco, still farmy, black pepper which ends on bitter notes of charcoal and ashes.

Sweet mother of peat! No words! In the mouth, pure, savoury (turkish) delight and fat, Ledaig-ian peat. The nose is a mix of fresh herbs and dirty rubber. And one of the longest, cleanest finishes i ever experienced.

Нос	—	Notes online tasting: Colour: Light amber Nose: Sweet leather, moist tobacco, tart herbs, a little lovage, slightly salty and fleshy, blackberries, cherries, filter coffee, dark chocolate. The smoke is there, but not obtrusive. A little liquorice, dry varnished wood.
Вкус	—	Very spicy start. Storck Chocolate Giant Bonbon. The chili again. Dark grapes. Bacon-wrapped dates. Blackberries and a lot of bitterness. The smoke is there, but not obtrusive.
Финиш	—	Long. Dry smoke and a lot of bitterness. Filter coffee and plums.

90 at least. Full-bodied and brutal, uncompromising. Sherry and smoke dance a dance. Not a waltz, but rather some technically difficult break dance. Fried grains that you eat with the husks, burnt matches, wet bulls, all covered with something that can only be called a liquid cake "poor student" cannon

Nose: Phenolic peat, hickory smoke, flame-grilled meat, bacon, raisins, orangepeel, lovage, seabreeze, burning pine needles, incense, old petroleum lamp, tobacco leaves, fresh road tar and diesel oil. Everything’s just dirty and „black“. Taste: Overripe blood oranges, Lindt's sea salt chocolate, oak, maple syrup, medium rare steak, bbq sauce and pipe smoke. Everything wrapped in a heavy phenolic and dirty peat blast that can keep up with every great Laphroaig. Very sooty and oily mouthfeel. Not a single off-note to be found. A few drops of water are recommended at this high strength. Those 2004 SV Ledaigs are spectacular. Seriously, you can’t expect much more from a peated first fill sherry cask. Great spirit in great casks bottled at peak performance. This cask and the 900175 are the best options IMHO (most others were good aswell).

Notes from a comparative tasting of the barrels 900171, 900174, 900175, 900176 and 900177 - each distilled on November 24th, 2004, bottled between June 9th, 2015 and August 26th, 2015 and matured in ex Sherry Casks. Ledaig SV 10y cask 900177 November 24, 2004 to June 9, 2015 62.3%. Color: orange brown Nose: light smoke, some burnt ham, milk chocolate, dry wood Body: medium Mouth: clearly alcohol, fresh sour oranges, ashy notes, dark chocolate, wood Finish: long, spicy, tingling, milk chocolate, fleshy smoky notes linger for a long time Conclusion: 87.5P., Nicely balanced between fruit, sweet notes and smoke in the nose and mouth. Thanks to the balance, my winner of the comparison testing.

powerful sherry-peat ledaig 11/24/2004, rubbery smoke, nuts, chocolate, salt, farm, smoked, winey notes, buttery, quite dry and mineral, strong, but alcohol well integrated, finish a little inferior to aroma and taste, but also quite powerful and warming. 23-23-22.5-22.5

It feels like I worked as a fireman and fought a fire in a warehouse where construction materials were in one hangar, and confectionery and dried fruits were in the other. Cake with candied fruits, dark chocolate, prunes, raisins and apricots, charred oak, paint and varnish, burnt plastic, grease and fuel oil. A very warm, pleasant and harmonious whisky despite the different profiles described above. It is interesting precisely with this successful balance of smoke and sweetness.

Нос	90	Yes, this is a classic Ledaig. The usual "love-it-or-hate-it smell. Sweet peat-smoke as usual. And of course the burned bbq meat is there, as well as tobacco and smoked ham. But not as aggressive like in many other cases.
Вкус	91	Thick, fat, oily full bodied dram. Earthy and dirty. Classic Ledaig in the taste as well. In spite of the explosion of spices in the mouth, is is still quite doable. But only after at least 12-15 drops of water.
Финиш	91	Unbelievably long and intense. I am pretty sure I will taste this even after brushing my teeth before going to bed.

So normally I like these Sherry Ledaigs from Signatory Vintage. That's not bad either. However, this has a certain annoying note for me, which for me is particularly pronounced in the mouth. I call it a dull minerality. So it's still good, but not as good as usual.

Once again an intense Ledaig, those 2004/2005 distilled malts are indeed a thing of it's own. This sherry cask added an intense note and a brutal sweetness that stays with you for long. Excellent bottling of you like this style, indeed these Ledaigs are lovely if you like that stlye. Very reasonable price as this is just on the market (end of July 2015). I trust that these will soon go up as this seems to sell fast!

Sticky, iodine smoked bacon, with blueberry pancakes and maple syrup, and a healthy covering of ash and grease on top. Really stunning depth for its age. One to savour for many hours in the glass.

2004 was a good year for Ledchik. I just graduated from school, and they just kicked out this beautiful distillate. And here he found me after 20 years! Burnt rubber, smoked cheese, smoked cherry and plum. Dry hay, cypress, birch broom! A little bit of dark chocolate and allspice. Excellently balanced, dry, oily. I have never met a whisky that was so easy to drink at 62%! Everything is just great. 90-91 again

I have just tasted with https://www.whiskybase.com/whisky/69605/ledaig-2004-sv (barrel 900175) directly in comparison. Two totally delicious whiskys, but clear differences: The ..175 dark, clearly sweet, round, fat sherry, subtle sweet smoke in the taste, the ..177 lighter, intense kräutrig and spicy, the smoke stronger and more phenolic and a neat spiciness. Great experience.

Mouth: a little too hot, rather sweet with orange, bitter orange and chocolate Finish: tart, rather herbaceous, a little less sweet than the others, fruity tart. Conclusion: another exciting facet, but also somehow a little bit special, was in the solid midfield of the comparison.
