Great Port Charlotte!!

Naked, the nose lost between my two tastings, the mouth remaining very beautiful, ample. It is the addition of water which, without much affecting the texture, boosts it severely. 88 nude, 90 reduced.
The madness in bottles! (93/100)

The intensity is quite high. And that's pretty much fun here. Despite 60% I've never felt the need to add water. But you can still do it, it swims well. Yummy! An excellent whisky - for me the best Port Charlotte, which I have tasted so far. Just a pity that the bottles are very expensive, I'll probably buy one anyway. The notes were written down during the tasting of a purchased sample.
Each year we release just a handful of precious bottles at cask strength. Our mission? To explore the effects of time on that esoteric union between spirit and oak as it mellows in our salt-soaked Hebridean air. PC11, ‘Eòrna Na h-Alba’ - Scottish Barley - is our homage to the land and people that gave life to this whisky. Tasting Notes and Comments by Bruichladdich
Blind tasting of a sample. I guessed the distillery right but thought I picked up a wine influence rather than sherry.
A little too much alcohol in this one!

Port Charlotte PC 11, 59.5% alc. original bottling Port Charlotte PC 11, 59.5% alc. original bottling Region: Islay, Scotland Nose: In the first impression sea air and peat smoke, peat fire on pebble beach, flotsam and algae. It is followed by more fruity aromas, including raisins and peaches, limes and oranges. Somehow I find in addition to cinnamon and salted peanuts. Palate: Fruity and smoky. Despite the high alcohol content very mild. Apricots, sultanas and peaches, then on the other side pepper, cinnamon and sea salt, smoked eel and horseradish. Finish: Long and very smoky, but also wonderfully harmonious. With tobacco, mild cocoa and raisins. Conclusion: complex and exciting! 87/100 points (tasted 2015, approx. 190 €) Thank you Peat Head for the rehearsal! Original article: http://www.notesofmalt.de/notes-Islay-un...PC-11,-59,5-OA/

Great whisky, peated and smoky but certainly not too hefty, just subtle. Enough room for fruity and sweet notes as well, all well balanced. Really very enjoyable dram.

Some rubber and fake leather ("Scapino effect"), alcohol pretty smooth for its Abv. Sweet smoke, tobacco, some hint of red fruits. |

Strong, powerful. Sweet smoke, intense. Some tobacco, and some hints of citrus now, clearly some fruity notes. Then some sweetness arrives, honey and vanilla. |

Still intense and powerfull. Sweet smoke, some fruitiness, wine gums. Tobacco. Long finish. |
The PC11 is also a board in its own right, but it's fresher and more playful due to the mix of bourbon and sherry casks. A little lighter, but almost a little better for me. Comparison tasting PC11 vs. PC12

Port Charlotte has become a gorgeous lady. This Oloroso matured whisky has almost nothing in common with the young Peat Project. The sherry influences make this PC11 stunningly complex. Take your time to discover and enjoy these rich flavours. This is a whisky that could urge me to break through my psychological € 100 budget barrier. But I'll have to run into her then. Not an easy task since she only roams the Travel Retail Stores.

The most complex and interesting whisky I have tasted in my collection and already. The nose and the taste change constantly, if you give it time to open. From warm to cold smoke, explosive comes extreme sweetness.

https://whiskylovingpianist.wordpress.com/2021/04/25/bottle-polishing-spring-2021-part-3-4/ A short while before wave [after wave] of barely-legal inaugural releases dominated our social media & auction site shores, the PC range was one of the ‘pop’ malts of its day [the PC5 being released in 2006]. At one point, PC11 commanded prices around the £250-300 mark [on the secondary], yet can now be picked up for £100 or less – you’re struggling to get a 3yo Glenwonka for that! I am surprised that whiskies from the PC range [and some Octomore’s, for example] haven’t even held their retail values, but then, some may argue that they were over-priced to begin with. First impressions: Taking into account the ppm, the abv, and all the ‘doctoring’/inventiveness, this chemical yet organic?! whisky comes across as soft and subtle – the quiet assassin = trouble,.. good trouble. BOTTLE: N: Very direct/up-front, this is [abv?]-sharp salty slightly onion-y and peaty. Months later, it’s become moreishly unctuous [oily/fatty/buttery]. T: Neat or not, we’ve ultra-focused squidgy-soft rocket fuel [not that I’ve ever come across the stuff], allium > grassy > vanilla-y > biscuity,.. a touch gacky~tannic/briny~oaky,… mezcal-like at times [but a Kilkerran 16yo did precede this]. In the middle stages, it seems to collapse like a sunken soufflé though rallies soon after. Seemingly very basic after a Caol Ila 25yo [WLP] and relatively non-eventful after an SMWS 16.35 [WLP], we’ve more allium vegetal peatiness,… [try 50% dilution],… Even after more Kilkerran 16 and then a Springbank 12yo CS, the last dram remains ultra-sharp, salty and oily,… unctuous remaining the operative word. F: After a [rum-like] spirity turn [on mid, side & roof palate], there’s just subtle action, all firmly based around that chiselled, young & formidable peated spirit, but boy, that unctuous oiliness still bowls me over to the last. Furthermore, there’s really no talk of the cask mix [like there is now], this bottle from a time – just a few years ago – before wood policy became the dominant fixture [much like talk of the mash bill in other whisk[e]y circles]. C: Simple [in some ways], it took a while for me to ‘get it’. This is one brilliantly consolidated youthful malt with a wowing teeth-coating oily unctuousness.

Nose: Sweet and fruity, red and dark fruits, raspberries, strawberries, blueberry jam, figs, caramel, buckwheat honey, a touch of nougat, peat, sweet smoke, tobacco, pencil eraser, sea, sea salt, seaweed, prunes. Well-structured, smooth, as if all the alcohol had evaporated. 90.00 |

'Another PC Cracker!' N: Pungent fresh coffee and wet peat with lashings of cream soda. This is a dirty [Dehli] sweet, sweaty dense fair. Fairly simple in nature, it's a pokey, spikey nostril filler. Little sniffs only. T: There are three main dominant flavours here. Delhi sweet/sweaty peat, chilli spice and some herbal notes in that order of dominance and arrival. All confident in themselves. Simples F: Herbal notes sweeten out leaving the palate feeling as it does with the aftermath of a sweet & hot chilli masala. Everything is still in tact at the end, in equal measure - and its done just when you thought it was building to something. Thankfully there is a final chapter, and that's a cream soda/custard rosemary Crème brûlée that finally crosses the finish line and does a lap of honour. Later, the peat lingers, but it's the fresh stuff of again like, an echo of the nose, amazing. Ok wow, water (in the mouth) turns this into warm honey, all the spice drowned and much of the peat reduced to wheatgrass smokey fumes. Back to neat, and all is back to normal. Its best with water. Its the first time I've ever said that, and a fair amount to boot. C: Well, another PC cracker, clearly maturing from year to year. Is it too sweet? haha yes. Is it a problem? No, not yet anyway. The most innocuous PC I've tried. The finish arrives earlier than expected, only because theres such expectation and [palate] jostling for position the start. But on reflection its done everything it should. The finish is much longer than you think so don't be going for that next sip too quickly cause the brulee needs time to reveal itself fully. You could nurse this all night. Fabulous, I'm getting a bottle. One final thought - is this an indication that the PC range will become too sweet and sickly in the years to come, or is it just this particular finish? Scores an A
Woof! Don't add water - it just dilutes the power....

a really great malt to discover The fruitiness with this Port Charlotte Smoke are a great combination
An excellent dram which I like more than the Port Charlotte 12. Nevertheless both of them are incredibly nice drams.
n: heavy smoke with tar and soot. right behind that thetere is a citric fruitiness of lemons and mandarins, lemontarte with vanilla, olives, brine, violets aniseed, liquorice and justa hint of manure. t: very strong of course with oily mouthfeel. really a lot of medicinal smoke, very much the nose I´d say, nicely sweet behind the smoke-curtain. f: long, very much on liquorice. comments: good whisky of course but way too expensive for what it is. 86/100
Peaty, Tcp, sweet sherry chocolate and fruits notes. This is so good. You can dislike Port Charlotte

An impressive single malt that convinces with a wonderful balance of smoke, maritime notes and sweet fruits. In the taste it ignites a smoke bomb that makes the aroma less likely. Overall, a great experience with many facets. Amazing what can develop in the barrel over 11 years.
"A fire was lit in the forest house in winter to keep warm!" Old burnt furniture, rosin, fire, rubber, ashes, dust, medicines, bitters, spices, nutmeg, burnt peanuts, breadcrumbs, just a little bit of orange. Very mineral!

Medicinal peaty nose reminiscent of Laphroaig, gentian, lemon, cowshed side, clove, and something between the rubbed match and flint. Sweet attack, slimy texture, the stable side is present for a dirty set! The alcohol is well integrated, the mouth develops on a mixture of plants but without bitterness. Long finish on round and greasy peat. I am definitely a PC profile client.
Smoke of fireworks, citrus, leather, salt, earth and peat. Body fat and saline, well balanced between smoke and fruits, perfectly integrating alcohol. Long final.
Very good peated whisky. I was convinced it was a Ledaig. I was surprised I didn't recognise the Bruichladdich smoke. I had a 2004 vW @ 60,7% next to it and it was very equal. The Ledaig was much stronger in taste, so I thought this was considerably lower in ABV percentage. Tasted at day 14 of the Usquebaugh Society blind tasting competition 2015. My guess was a Ledaig, 09yo at 56%.

A powerhouse of malt, smoke, fruit, nut and salt.
The aroma is an astonishing blend of toasted marshmallow, blueberry jam, and nail polish. On the palate, there's sweet smoke with dark fruits and marshmallow in chocolate. The finish is intense, long, and tobacco-smoky. An absolutely marvelous Port Charlotte, where the cask has married with the smoky base almost flawlessly, imparting sweetness and a plethora of dessert-jammy tones. RATING: 90pts – |90 – 92 (A-) → Excellent| — Here the golden pantheon begins.
