Quick hit review. A huge shout-out to Schmausel for opening and sharing this marvelous Glenfarclas. My vintage, port maturation - what could possibly go wrong? On the nose, there is a wonderful potpourri of cherries, strawberry cream and sweet orange zest, mingling with spearmint and delicate wood spices. Lush and juicy in the arrival, the palate shines with gummy bears, raspberries and some herbal notes. Silky mouthfeel. Emerging oak spices, red apples and a maraschino cherry on top conclude the long finish. A rare treat - simply delightful! RATING: 4.5/5.0 stars ≙ 91 pts → SUPERB

Thanks to Schmausel for this sample. Not a typical Glenfarclas, but it works very well with a Port cask.

Well, how should I put it? The best single malt I ever had in my glass. That was sample number 178. I hope there are more such great whiskys coming. There will be another look for replenishment. Wonderful ... Just a dream

The smell is very complex and resists decoding, everything is tightly interwoven. The whisky demands attention. If you don't want that, you can just enjoy the wonderful mixture of aromas, a wonderful smell! The taste is not for those with a sweet tooth, strong oak notes dominate and sour fruit aromas come to the fore. If you like that sort of thing, you will love this whisky. The finish is a little softer, but here too the oak dominates and forms a round, very nice finish. A completely unfashionable whisky. The two pipes used were certainly not "wet" but refill barrels. The oak dominates more than the fruit, even if the latter shows a slightly sour note. I love him!

Wonderful Glenfarclas that ticks all the boxes. Wonderful cask bottled at the peak of maturation. A long-matured Glenfarclas without too much woodiness/dryness is something special.
[February, 2016] Together with friends I emptied bottle no. 593 that I bought for 170 Euro in November, 2014. In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 87,5. My notes state a very complex profile that is multi-layered but it shows some strange sour off-notes that drives the whole dram out of balance (this happens quite often with long-time port maturations). Some people might like it, I do not. Nevertheless a very fine dram and easy to drink, for sure...
Complex, but not overwhelming. An excellent balance between oak flavors and intense port wine fruitiness. You have to like the slightly musty wood note, but it blends elegantly into the intense port note for my taste. The drop has a lot to offer and completely convinced me.

Old musty, yet spicy and fruity wood at the same time. Behind it hovers a very fruity, sour port note. You might think, an old wooden barn stands for years in Portweinregen and weathered, about that must smell. After another few minutes, I mean a little caramel, a decent portion of spice (lovage), freshly sawn wood and mint. In general, the nose is relatively restrained, but very aromatic with a very pleasant acidity that lets me associate ripe oranges and sour cherries. The wood notes do not go in the strong harsh direction, but bring in with more thoughts of bitter almond flavor, dark chocolate, tobacco and leather. |

Short fruity-sweet and you could have sipped on a port wine. But immediately after the dominant fruitiness, the age shows in the form of spicy, tingling oak flavors. Again with the association with old port wine-soaked wood. A little vanilla flashes from time to time, but can not completely prevail against the oaks and Portaromen. I hear my dark chocolate, old leather couch, tobacco flavors and a lot of oak spice. A very pleasant mouthfeel and the Port fruit acid and orange peel remain in the mouth for a very long time and give the whole spectrum of aromas a beautiful intense fruity-spicy component. |

The finish is very long and at first still pleasantly tingling with a residual fruit and elegant and not really tart oak flavors. A cooling mouthfeel also lingers for a long time and is reminiscent of mint. A somewhat musty wooden character also occupies the middle of the tongue and remains, as all other flavors, felt eternal. |
Wow! I've never experienced such an intense combination of roasted malt, dark chocolate, and dark fruit notes in any whisky before. And the low ABV of "only" 46% is by no means a drawback. Amazing! One of the best whiskies I've ever had in my glass.

Alleluia! This Glenfarclas is incredibly layered, complex and profound. A dreamy nose, unbelievably voluminous and intense in the taste, in addition to that harmoniously with the powerful and characterful aftertaste. Glenfarclas and Port, a successful combination, especially the famous port bottlings in the early 80s! Fantastic and indescribably delicious! 24/23/23/23 (93P)

Light copper has a reddish shimmer in the Premium Snifter, while beguiling sweetness and fruit aromas are noticeable from afar, a multitude of small and thick "legs" emerge from the streaks adhering to the glass wall. Caramelized sugar mixes with sour fruit notes, raspberries play with strawberries, currants and blackberries end in honey and toffee, spicy oak is discreetly in the background. A hint of citrus fruits and old mint, milk chocolate and hints of raisins and dates emerge from the tart fruit notes, the nose is incredibly fruity and complex. The abrasion and zest of juicy orange peel is followed by a hint of sweet tobacco and dry leather, grapefruit and the remaining citrus fruits with mint and a hint of menthol, dried grapes and berries come into their own with a minimal musty appearance. In the meantime the salivation has started massively and although I would like to smell this wonderful nose for an eternity, the first sip follows expectantly ... |

The first sip flows gently and mildly over the tongue, briefly sweetness and caramel flashes, then sour fruit notes envelop the tongue, subtle spiciness settles on the palate while woolly warmth with abrasion of grapefruit and orange peel pulls through the mouth. Cinnamon and cocoa trickle onto currants and old tobacco leaves, milk chocolate drips onto leather, citrus fruits also trickle into spicy oak from which peppery heat is slowly emerging. Sour fruit aromas dominate the taste, mint is added, a slightly musty and "mushroom" aroma is created. Hazelnuts and grated dark chocolate, followed by spicy wood tones and dark plums, the aromas change every second and flatter the tongue. |

Hazelnuts with cinnamon and cocoa powder start the aftertaste, cozy warmth sticks to the palate with a touch of spiciness, tart citrus fruits knock on the palate and end creamy on the tongue. Spicy with a dry herbal note, hazelnuts and milk chocolate come into their own, a hint of vanilla ends creamy with honey and toffee in the lower jaw, hints of tobacco and leather herald the end of the aftertaste with cedarwood and creamy walnuts. |

Devaluation for mold, damp cellar, Gammelholz, mushroom note all these 100-point ratings - that's either massive push - or unnoticed misuse of the mobile version of the page, right after the transition.

This port maturation from Glenfarclas also practically falls through the door with its strawberry fruitiness. But here it's more in the direction of strawberry-cream candy. I don't find any mustiness, musty wood or tartaric acid in this bottling either. The wood really comes into its own in the taste for the first time and continues to tingle for a long time in the finish. Some dark chocolate and MonCherie cherry round the whole thing off. I liked the taste of the 1980 Port Ferkel a little better because the wood was more accentuated. Nevertheless, a very successful drink for a port maturation.

It's very tasty and damn good. A noticeably mature malt with a very good port cask. Every malt should taste like this when port is involved. Great dram, but one can only imagine how much better it would be with a higher alcohol content. Very good, but not quite 90 points for me.

Glenfarclas is especially well-known for their heavily sherry influenced single malts. Not only is this expression full matured in port pipes (which is a rarity in itself) but it is also over 30 years old! http://dramlicious.com/tasty-tastings-episode-45/

Color: dark golden brown Nose: intensely sweet smelling, herbs, oily, strong influence from the port wine barrel, reminiscent of a liquid Ricola herb candy Taste: spicy, fruity, strongest herbal note that I have ever tasted in a malt, almost no bitter taste, towards the finish the malt reminds a little of "After Eight". With a little water there is also the "Scotish Mist", in other words streaks Finish: the taste remains on the front part of the tongue for a relatively long time; later the tongue likes to rub the longitudinal folds of the palate, the taste and sweetness stay in the mouth for a long time. Conclusion: You can see, smell and taste the outstanding old (!!!) quality of Glenfarclas. The malt is really extraordinary due to the strong herbal coloring and has long served as my dram for "special events". It's a shame that this bottle is now empty.

Old Swede, this whisky is a hammer! With almost missing the words. Elegance in perfection without being restrained, mild without losing its expression, complex but not overstraining, sweet and fruity, creamy, full, old without being bitter, clear port wine without being overpainted or overladen, herbs without the impression of Kräuterschnaps / bitters. Just right. This Glenfarclas is the best whisky I have ever had in the glass. In Sproak's words: "Wow!" Update: Has been replaced by 98907.

Very nice, the first nose train says immediately: I am a Glenfarclas and I was 33 years in the barrel, oak, honey, fresh strawberries, sweet fruit, milk chocolate, cinnamon, gingerbread, speculaas, plum, raisins, with minute by minute this whisky heavier, fuller, deeper, creamier, fruity, sweeter without losing its elegance. Citrus fruits flash briefly (oranges) before they are put back in the cupboard wall, vanilla cream, panna cotta, it swings over to leather but only briefly, the dark fruits and berries, especially blueberries and currants make their way and unite to forest fruit jam , Suddenly peach agrees. The potpourri is constantly backed by sweet but old wood and slightly fresh herbs. The second nose is again indescribably seductive with a clearer port. |

Dream fabric from Glenfarclas. That's exactly how I appreciate Glenfarclas' aroma profile. Complex, balanced and not overloaded. Rather delicate and exciting aromas. Unfortunately, Glenfarclas is no longer available. You have to like the mushroomy, musty note in the finish, it still works for me.

What a great malt! Now I regret splitting the bottle to the point where my share is only 10cl. At no times you are overpowered by a singular aspect of it. It shifts from sour to sweet, from fruity to herbal, from oaky to meaty. It rewards those who take their time with it. But when enjoying over 30 year-old malt whiskies, that should be a given anyway. On top of its fair price for a 30+ year-old official bottling, the overall profile of it makes it a perfect Christmas dram. Recommended!

Initially quite dense. It starts off with overripe fruit, such as figs, dates, pineapples, and is certainly on the sweeter side of things. I always found Glenfarclas to exhibit a sour oakiness, but in this dram it is less obvious – on the nose at least. Concentrated herbal candy and sweet licorice. Even at 46%, the spirit is noticeable, but not really in an alcoholic or badly integrated way. Honey and Christmas cake full of sultanas. After half an hour or so, the overt sweetness turns into candied gammon. |

Wow, there it is. Sweet, spicy, sour oak! Amplified tenfold in comparison to the likes of the 18 or 21 year old. I am not sensitive to oaky whisky, so I find this rather interesting. If you go with it and keep it in your mouth for as much as 33 seconds, g, it develops a heavy sweetness. Now it is full of caramelized wood spice and… salted butter? Savory notes emerge together with more licorice. As a backdrop, the port wine remains present at all times. It is different from oloroso or PX sherry however; meatier and darker. |
