Nose: When you open the bottle, sweet gummy bears, vanilla, and caramel are waiting for you. After some time in the glass, the sherry flavors come out more and more. I also have the pipe tobacco! For a 10-year-old, that's tough! The high alcohol content almost does not smell. With water it becomes milder and rounder. Taste: Without diluting the alcohol is too strong and covers the smell. With water comes first the sweetness and then the buttery vanilla more and more. Gradually also spicy sherry and wood notes Finish: Long, malty and dry oak. A great whisky for the age - even the price fits!

Very punchy - water is really needed - the buttery notes are quite special while it is not really like butterscotch

Certainly not a filigree and restrained malt. No kicker. The rather suggests the loud sounds. But he does that really well for his age. But you must not object to the Glenrothes notes, because they are also present here.

Glenrothes - 10yr - Cask # 5469 - 67.1% - Exclusively bottled to celebrate Abbey Whisky's 10th Anniversary. Appearance: Golden pine. Long & speedy oily legs Nose: An unadulterated abundance of fireside toffee & runny caramel with a really faint hint of coconut 'bounty bar' at the back. The initial reaction is that if a confectionary made a whisky, this would be it. Once you've stepped out of the sweet shop, there's a tart fruit note, like cherries and rhubarb. In fact, rhubarb and custard sweets really comes through now. Back into the sweet shop we go then ... Once the candy-store hit has had its way with you, there's lots of sweet sherry and sticky wine to be had. The whole thing is so luxuriously candied and caramel-infused, you'd be forgiven if you just wanted to smell it for an hour. And that would be easy, as there's very little, if any, alcohol burn on the nose at this bold 67.1% ABV. I'll try not to use the phrase Xmas cake, so I'll say rich and moist Dundee Cake instead and be done with it. Palate: Sweetness is so in your face it's ridiculous. Fire cracker caramel that's been laced with popping candy coats the whole mouth, tattoos the tongue, and leaves a sweet and oily layer that drapes itself over everything. This is a whisky for people with a sweet tooth and who like caramel-drenched desserts and sticky toffee pudding. No water in my glass by the way - it really doesn't  need it (for me). In fact, the last time I had a whisk(e)y of this strength that didn't need water, was a George T Stagg at almost 70% ABV.  It's all about the flavor here, and the ABV really does not get in the way and ruin it. In fact, the strength seems to provide a great platform for the flavors to roll-up and appear one after the other. Finish: Sweet and long. The sweetness fades to a light bitter fizz, and then moves over to a more mellowed burnt-sweetness. Conclusion: Pretty fantastic. Utterly sweet with bold liquid caramel and everything naughty. Totally recommended. Be warned though - it's very strong and very drinkable. Just keep an eye on that level in the bottle! Rather well made. Glenrothes isn't one of my favourites because of the bread and sulphur notes usually found in their whisky. But this one is quite magnificent.

Tasty but it does make a really young impression.

A great Speyside Malt where the PLV fits in any case. For sherry lovers a must because the sherry does not cover everything.

Finish too strong without water. With water the finish is more pleasant.

Toffee popcorn, caramel, honey. Layers of sweet stickiness to unravel, the nose for me was the highlight.

Thankfully not a completely cask-dominated first-fill bomb but a nicely balanced refill number from an excellent American oak butt.

Liquid shortbred! Great stuff at all, the typical Glenrothes aromas combined with the sherry cask. For this young age a very full and complex whisky with a salty buttery and vinilla kick you won't find at any other distillery. And very balanced for a single cask. Well selected! Simply amazing!

that's fierce for 10y; must have been good barrels has the typical Glenroth notes I like him
