The nose begins with dark fruit (blackberries, blackberries), whereby the fruits are not "fresh" but rather jelly-like/jammy. Over time, cocoa, cinnamon, and espresso also come through. I don't find any missing notes, towards the end the espresso seems slightly burnt. The alcohol is consistently well integrated and is only noticeable through a light mint. The nose is very voluminous, the only point of criticism is the lack of a "long journey". |

The taste begins very voluminous and dark fruity. The nose is consistently continued. The espresso and chocolate notes are perhaps a little more pronounced |

Sherry Whisky Tasting February 2026 Glenfarclas 29yrs 1991 cask #5676 55.3% WB192001 Oh my gosh, the colour of this build anticipation Nose Luxurious dark fruits, silky chocolate, hint of tobacco and herbs, just absolutely gorgeous Palate Beautiful dried and fresh dark fruits, hint of pepper spice and great oakiness. Excellent texture Finish Beautifully chocolatey, silky, sherry goodness Just plays a wonderful dance between fresh and dried fruits. 91/92 Redbreast 16yrs 2001 1st fill Sherry butt #17126 58.6% WB104260 Nose Sweet Sherry notes, fresh red fruits and berries, strawberry jam, artificial sweetener and hint of glue Palate Spicy, spice attack, reminds me of immature Abunadhs, big cinnamon, toffee, chillis Finish Dry, bitter, dark fruits This is a little immature and hot for 16yrs. I’m going to try a drop of water and see if it improves things. Water is essential with this and improves the balance significantly. Bitter dark chocolate also starts to unfold. 87 Macallan Speymalt 22yrs 2001 G&M 53.6% WB289682 Nose Rather closed, earth, some tobacco, hint of honey, not very expressive, watered down prune juice, cigar ash Palate and Finish Little value in many more notes. This is a really disappointing dram, bitter, lacking character, hot and below the standard G&M should be bottling. Trying with water and we’ll see if it improves. Water opens this up but it’s still very underwhelming 82 Macallan Speymalt 22yrs 2003 G&M 59.5% No Whiskybase ID Nose Oaky, fennel, honey, dried fruits, trail mix, sultanas, golden syrup, orange and ginger, herbal Palate Lovely dried sherry fruits, the trail mix again, fruit and nut chocolate, lovely sweetness Finish Dry, dark sherry savoury / sweet balance and goodness, 87 Glenfarclas 8yrs 105 proof 1970’s WB239800 Nose Distinctly more honeyed and malty than then 1991 Family Cask, it’s less open but the components of a lightly sherried dram are there. Palate Wow, really shines here, incredible balance of honeys, peppercorn, dried fruits, spices and maltiness. The palate just far exceeds the nose which is fairly tight. Wonderful texture. Finish Big, bold, spicy, chalky, mineral, hint of saltiness Wonderful dram. This is a very different example of Glenfarclas compared to the family cask, it’s more stripped back and spirit led, and wonderful in its own way. 90/91 Mortlach 15yrs Wine Society 1980’s 57% WB159925 Big, dry, savoury, meaty and dark Mortlach. Very idiosyncratic. Great stuff but certainly not an everyday drinker. The best of the tasting. 92
Once again a great bottling from the sherry butt, reminds me a bit of cask no. 1073. Perhaps a bit more complex/elegant here. All the aromas are there: oak counterbalances the strong sherry influence. Blackberry, cherry, and blackcurrant jam. Espresso with dark chocolate, old leather, and wood polish. The alcohol is very well integrated. The relatively long finish, with its slight bitterness, is followed by cinnamon and other spices...that takes time to fully unpack. The longer you let it breathe before drinking, the better the nose becomes, in my opinion. Yes, the price is quite high these days. However, when I look at Glendronach single cask bottlings, Macallan, or Springbank, even this price is put into perspective.

Very good harmony between distillate, barrel, and alcohol content. You get what you expect. Very tasty. 91-100 – Whisky heaven, best stuff

It has an oily viscosity and a highly intense bouquet. I detect aromas of intense raisin syrup, plum wine, dark chocolate, vanilla, and coffee liqueur. It's relatively complex. It has a rather sweet flavor. The alcohol is well integrated, and it has a heavy body.

Nose: initially freshness and peppermint, then sweet dark fruits. On the palate: chocolate, coffee and again dark fruits and peppermint. After the first sip, the chocolate comes through in the nose as well. Departure very long. The pharynx is filled with syrup. With water it becomes even more differentiated. Now there's some cinnamon too. The tingling peppermint remains on the palate and the espresso becomes more dominant in the Agang, Conclusion: sherry bomb and yet complex. Very good Family FC, but unfortunately the price is now over it...
This malt would have fit right into my loot scheme 5 years ago and would have definitely scored 92+ points.. Delivers what it promises: extremely concentrated aromas of red fruits, maggi, tobacco... bitter but not too bitter finish

the nose is reflected here, dark sherry and spicy honey, dried fruit, coffee, orange, barrel and wood notes, some oak spice. Sweetish and voluminous, spices/baking spices. The alcohol is well integrated, the whisky does not necessarily need the addition of water. Best in small sips and with a little hand warmth. 92 |

Nose: Shirley's peak weight should be the one that MMA judges like. You can still smell the winery genes of clams, old wooden barrels, almonds, dark preserved fruit, nut oil, a little bit of burnt and smelly mandarin fish (sulphur), and herbs. A lot of sugar, as expected of you, Taiwanese market, cooked plums, cherries, sweet and sour taste of yellow apricots, affogato, light seafood soy sauce, 35% black chocolate, iced American style, chocolate hazelnut sauce. Palate: Zhongzheng is peaceful, warm and moist like jade, and even makes people suspect that it is a two-fill sherry barrel. Of course, it is not ruled out that it is because the clams can't get any tasty barrels. Acidity noticeable, olorosos scheduled, but not offensive, herbal bitterness, Vietnamese/Thai vanilla, fruity, but very dull, not lively, raisins, toffee, black chocolate bitterness deepened, espresso , prominent almonds, almond husks, woody spices. Finish: long, cocoa, oak, herbs, jam, yellow apricot. Body: Zhongzheng, the oil is average~normal, the sweetness is medium to high, no tannin, acidity, no astringency, bitter rhyme, no spicy feeling.
Powerful, dark, and oily. Dried fruit in sherry, plum wine, bittersweet chocolate, leather, tobacco, and nuts. Also a tart, herbal note.
Smell: A little darker than the 1990/S21, alcohol well integrated, sweetness, nutty, rum raisin?, wild berries (raspberries). Taste: dryness, oak spice, green tea (long drawn), sweetness, tolerates even more water than the 1990/S21. Finish: very long finish, a big 'wave', intense aromatic pressure. Summary: After the great 1989/S21, an almost equally good family cask of this release. The 1990/S21, on the other hand, can't quite keep up.
Tasted vs 9256 Yesterday evening. Completely different but just as amazing :)
Almost black in colour, toffee & rich fudge, sweet sherry, peppery, some liquid honey, dark, tempered chocolate. Lovely stuff!
